ArtsReach is an arts exposure, enrichment and enhancement program offered free to participating public and private schools in the Hilton Head, Bluffton, Okatie, and Hardeeville areas. In addition, services are offered to after school program providers and institutions in the Lowcountry. The Arts Center’s education department works with a coordinator at each site to determine the selection of artists based on their curricular needs. Professional teaching artists are hired to work directly in classrooms and performing artists are contracted to provide staged performances at schools and institutional sites, serving up to 8,000 students and teachers yearly. The program is comprised of four components:

ArtsReach/InClass offers the services of visual and performing artists who are primarily included on the South Carolina Arts Commission’s Approved Artist Roster in a residency format. The objective of these residencies is to provide students and teachers the opportunity to explore new experiences in structured settings, presented by artists who have expertise in specialty areas different from their classroom teachers or art specialists.  Also included are live performances that embrace educationally relevant themes providing pathways to knowledge through the performing arts.

ArtsReach/AfterSchool offers students well-organized, productive experiences beyond the normal school day. Since the arts play a pivotal role in transforming educational experiences, the intersection of the arts is an essential option for many successful after school programs.

ArtsReach/InService is based on the principle that the professional development of community educators through the arts is vital to the improvement of education for young people. Workshops are held at the Arts Center as well as at schools and institutional sites.

ArtsReach/SpecialNeeds recognizes the need to increase accessibility of creative learning opportunities through the arts for people with special needs and physical disabilities.  Professional teaching artists and performers with training adapting arts resources and activities provide appropriate and meaningful experiences in a variety of art forms.
